DEME Offshore and Prysmian awarded largest ever US offshore wind installation

DEME Offshore US has secured a $1.9bn contract for the construction of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in a consortium with Prysmian.

Dominion Energy Virginia, a subsidiary of Dominion Energy, has awarded the consortium the balance of plant (BOP) contract worth more than $1.9bn for the construction of the Coastal Virginia offshore wind (CVOW) project.

 

The agreement is the largest offshore wind installation contract ever awarded in the US Upon expected completion in 2026, the CVOW will be the largest wind farm in the US.

The project is located at approximately 43 km off the coast of Virginia Beach, VA, US.  The 2.6 GW offshore wind farm will be capable of supplying clean energy to as many as 660,000 households, while reducing carbon emissions by over 2m tonnes per year.

 

DEME Offshore will oversee the complete offshore installation works for the foundations, substations, infield cables, as well as part of the export cables. For the fulfilment of the project, DEME Offshore entered in a consortium with Prysmian and underwater energy cable systems specialist.

The CVOW announcement follows on from earlier contract awards for Vineyard Wind 1 off the coast of Massachusetts, the first utility-scale offshore wind project in the US, and the South Fork offshore wind farm off the coast of Long Island.
